Welcome to Minas de Alquife.
The objective of Minas de Alquife S.L. is to reboot open pit mining on the Alquife deposit.

The Alquife iron ore deposit is located in Southern Spain, ca. 80 km east of Granada. Known as “Minas del Marquesado”, the mine operated until the year 1997 for about 100 years and mined up to 4 million tonnes of iron ore per year. Minas del Marquesado exploited one of the most important iron ore deposits in Western Europe and the most important deposit on the Iberian peninsula.
In 1900, the iron ore extraction began with underground mining operations that were step by step replaced by open pit mining with underground mining ending in 1967. About 80 million tonnes of ore were mined in the open pit mine at Alquife until 1997, when the mining company Compañia Andaluza de Minas S.A. filed for bankruptcy – on the one hand due to low market prices and on the other hand due to high transportation costs.
